In most situation, you are correct about debt being self inflicted. What about the people with catastrophic illnesses. Legislation passed is going to hurt the sick and elderly in this case and what about all of the pension plans going under. One day (I hope not though, misfortune and fate may pay you a visit). Sorry for my tone of my post but a little emphathy and understanding towards your fellow man will go a long way too.

they took it cause i guess you didnt make the payments.  but your still under contract to pay for it.  once paid for you get it back....or you should get it back. thats when a lawyer is needed shadier companies usually sell it at auction AND make you pay them.  Ill ask a laywer about that for ya.;)

Yep.. I could have put bubble wrap on milk crates and continued to sleep on the floor in my newly purchased condo, that of which I could have stayed in my car but I would smell pretty good right now after living in my car for 2 years.:D

I'm still using my $36 36" TV ;up;lol: I got 2 years ago.

And some of the debt. I have NFC how I got it. I just torned oround one day and was like WOW!!!.... Oh wait... some of it is from fixing the POS condo...

Did I say the condo is a POS....:D

No, see... this is why I won't pay Ford. I WAS making my
payments! My DAD filed bankrupcy (he was CO-signer on my
loan). Ford stopped letting me make payments! I TRIED TO PAY THEM! They
said the loan was in bankruptcy status and I couldn't make payments at
that time. Well, after the bankruptcy was finalized, they sent me a
huge lump sum bill. I couldn't pay it. They took the car. They sold the
car! They STILL billed me for the remainder of the loan! So...:fuFord Credit!

The sad part here is you probably could have re-financed through a Credit Union locally and taken your Dad's name right off it and still have it.

I had to re-finance to get my ex-husband off my 2k2 loan and other stuff.  He stole all of my savings before I could do anything though.  wiped me right out.

That still stinks

I probably could've but in all honesty I was getting sick of paying for
it. I was hoping they were going to forgive the loan, but they didn't.
And when they did want me to start paying again, I really didn't want
to (but of course I would have if I could have, if they didn't just
want a huge lump-sum).

I suppose I could've figured out some way to kept it, but I was kindof
at a point where I didn't know if it would've been worth it... still
owed $8k... car sold for $3k at auction...

I have to agree with AJ on that. FMC didn't even use any lubricant. Financial situations with family or friends invloved, is something I try to avoid totally.  Bummer!

So I finaly broke down and cut up my credit cards this morning. I am so proud of myself! I had originaly just put them away, but I caught myself already pulling one out to use.
I am on my way finaly! (Goddess did that feel like a really big step too!)
I figured out I can be debt free from everything but my first and second mortgage in 3 years!!
