Okay, so I'm stealing this one off of the Jet, but I thought it was interesting to read through.
I am 22, and between my husband and I we owe
66,000 on the house
5800 cc#1
2600 cc#2
700 cc#3
220 cc#4
12000 second mortgage (new windows)
5000 roof loan
11000 Focus
way too damned much! :(
103320 total.

so how in debt are the rest of you?

15,000 a car....which really doesnt count......no credit cards tey are bullchit and move too much to own a house so id say we are positive 20,000 ith IRA's and Mutual funds and...my 401 K  hmmmmm

if anyone wants to figure out the quickest way to pay off debt let me know...i went to a financial planning manager class i can do some numbers ...if you track your spending down to the Penny..like everytime you pull the wa;;et out or spend 25 on a soda...you can get a 10% increase your take home pay by realizing where you blow money at or figure out ways to get things you like easier.

Like you for example//you have DSL///digital cable a dgo to the movies 4 nights a week....well stop going to the movies...theres 84 dollars you save...

harsh exapmple but i knew a girl you was broke every payday...tacked her spending for a month down to the nickel....realized she used vending mahines for a total of 210 dollars a month.  half her take home pay...

Marinate on that.

I'm 22 married with an 8 year old daughter!

I'd love some of those tracking sheets you are talking about. We used
to be doing really good with money and aren't so much anymore. I
suppose taking a 3000 vacation isn't really helping either :P nor is constantly renovating the house.
It's not little things that get us.
edit: we promised each other all of the credit cards would be cut up
when we got back from vacation and we do have about 4000 in a 401k.
contribute like 12 % to it every week. So from about 2 weeks on it's
going to be all about paying down the debt. Time to stop playing around.

CC1= $500 (paying off in a week or 2, due date)
CC2= $0
Focus = $0
School loans = $0

22 years old, and with about $7000 in loans owed to me to boot:)

I hate debt!

Audiojunkie, I've heard that tip about "trivial" spenidng adding up, it
really makes sense, it's just hard to see if you don't step back and
think. I know I waste money on random things, usually like candy bars
and such when I'm out and haven't eaten that day, it's a bad habit!

yeah another tip....is pay a lil more than the monthly bill on all credit cards....then pay ne off and apply you monthly payment to anouther ...like for exapmle...

3 CC

you pay 50 dollars a month on all three.....where you only need to pay 25...

you pay one off....then the credit card you paid off you add to another do one credit card gets 100 a month and the other 50...then once that one is gone you apply 150 to the last....i assume everyone already does this....but hey info is info an alot of people pay 200 a month to hear that from a "professional"

LOL OOOOOOO also if your gonna be late....for a payment most credit card companies will work with you...you just have to call the company and talk to the right people.  dont take no for an answer keep going higher...LOL   Ill bring more info about that later.....SO ill get you those tracking sheets and what not. and ill brig some more financail tips pf the day.:clap

My debt is nothing right now. i have only one CC that i use and I pay it off every month. Sadly, i only have about 3%/week going into my 401K since i have 3 boys to help support too.

I also have about $5k that is owned to be between on of the 3 boys owing me everything i spend to support them, plus a  friend who i loaned money to 2 years ago!! I dont think im ever gonna see that... but a girl can dream cant she??

Stranges thing though.... I went for a morgage loan to get a house... just to see what i could clear... and yup... got it back... my credit score was like 777.... but i have too much debt to get a loan!!!! I still have to call to see where exactly they found debt... i would like to know!

Let's see:

Focus: $9500
Student Loan: $4000
Personal Loan: $4700
Credit Card 1: $200
Credit Card 2: $150
SSA Debt (long stupid government BS story): $1600

34 yo single female w/ kidney disease owes: $20,000 +/-

The car would have been more if it were the 2k2, but I made out on that car wreck.
The student loan had been put on health differment and then unemployment for a time so that's why that stupid thing still haunts me.
Personal loan due to my ex husband being a right prick
SSA - OMG -I'll have to tell you that story some other time.  Basically paying for their mistake!  Go figure.

Pokes, i think it's great that you even have 3% going into your 401k.
One thing I learned is that starting that early is the smartest thing
you can and every little bit helps.
When are you going to find out about how much debt you supposedly have? That is an awesome credit score!

OMg, I think I will beat any of you. I am so bad I have like 6 credit cards, which I am late on paying, from losing jobs and quitting, but here are the one's I can remember:

Focus $13,000.00

Explorer $13,000.00  (got these 2 at the same time)

Damn IRS $2,000.00

SBC/DSL $200.00

WOW cable $100.00

RAC $2,000.00

Zales $900.00

Citibank $1,000.00

That's all I can remember, plus the forgotten one's, I pay little by little, I don't make much and with this recent 50 cent raise, oh wow, like that makes a differrence. :blah

check it out...

eveyone take there net income(gross pay minus taxes/socialsecurity)

then add up all your credits monthly payments.....(not rent/insurance/bills)

then take the debts and divide them by the net income and multi ply by 100

thats your debt to income ratio

Example 500 net income.....and 600 dollars in credits

600/500=1.2x100=120%

EXAGGERATED but very accurate.....

15-20% fully extended anyhing higher your in trouble....

greater than 30%..PM me for help...  most large families barely survive at 16%:caution
