It is a navy blue.
Should I even care? I love the color, we don't have any homeowners associations or anything telling me I can only pick from certain colors. It might not match with the old peeling white paint everyone else in our neighborhood has... but is that really my problem?

Gosh darnit I mispelled inthe title and can't change it!
It should say I'm PAINTING my house! lol

A homeowner in my son's neighborhood painted his house a high vis day-glo yellow. His neighbors complained, & he was cited by the city. He had xx amount of days to change it, or face pretty stiff fines. Navy blue doesn't seem to me to be in the same catagory. If it were me, I'd ck 1st with the city, then tell your neighbor to mind her own business...in a nice way.

The city doesn't have anything against navy blue... there are lots (okay well not lots but enough) of navy blue houses around? I'll call tomorow to make sure.

I pretty much told her to shove it.

That's full crap, how you gonna tell some other homeowner what to do. It's not harmful so let her ass put up with it.

Tell her to go blow!

Navy or a deep antique blue is so nice IMO on a home.  I also love the deep dark antique brick red as an offset color on the doors, windows & shutters, if you have them.  I've seen it done very tastefully

As for the Day-Glo colors - I don't blame the city...I've seen some monster house colors...my least favorite being that hot, day-glo, mint green you see in trailer parks...there is a house here that is all that color...what an eyesore!

Well, I called the city today and the woman laughed and said she doesn't have a foot to stand on even if i DO paint it neon pink and purple!

The more I look at the color, the more I really truly like it too. I'm getting all excited now!! (to get the house done)

Wow, I just love people who think that their opinions matter:shock: She honestly said she thought you should change the paint color? Is she kidding!

That's ridiculous, like others said I really can't think of anyone that would hate navy blue enough to complain about it to you... it's not heinous at all, it is very nice (our living room is that color, I love it)!

We're getting our house repainted (dark Colonial red) next week, if anyone walked up to the yard and suggested we go with another color I'd be rather PO'ed... some people have too much time on their hands I guess...

Good luck painting the house, I'm sure it'll look lovely when you're done. Get us some pictures!

Ohhh, dark colonial red sounds really nice!  I take it you're not painting it yourself? Just curious how much it costed you? I would love to see pictures!
Personaly, I love the color more every time I look at the garage. I will post pics when I get my camera back from best buy (who is hopefully fixing it under warranty!).
I can post an in between picture though :D
Here is my 90 year old house. :)

Hey, you can keep your phooey yuck and gross to yourself! :P

No, that isn't the shade actualy. It is a couple of shades darker than that (more navy blue).
I do really like the porch color, but I wasn't sure how it would look whole house wise.

hey I was just teasing ya. I was trying to give you motivation to hurry up and paint so we can see the finished product. I actually like the porch the way it is. But that's just me. I'm kinda boring. I like the outside of houses to be white or creme or some other neutral color like that.

DOnt worry. I have my pompoms out and I'm cheering ya on. Ra ra rouse! Paint the house! Ra ra roo! Paint it blue!

^^^LOL.

The porch does look nice, but maybe a little too much for the whole house... a few shades darker should look real nice though.

90 years old, wow! It definitely looks like it could use a fresh coat or two, it's amazing how different a houe looks once its freshly painted. One of our neighbors recently had theirs done and it didn't look bad before, but all of a sudden it jumps out at you, like wow that house looks really different (even though the same color).

^^It's not quite this bright red, camera's settings are off.

We took off our shutters and you can see the paint's darker under where they were and that's the shady north side (plus the shutters didn't go on for a couple years too)!

The south side is a little worse, the paint has started to peel in areas. My mom knows a painter so he gave us a discount, it's still 4 digits, I can't remember exactly. He pressure-washed the whole thing first to give a nice clean base to paint on, and that took a whole day so I'm glad we didn't DIY this particular task! I'm impressed the paint has held up though, it's 20 years old and my parents did it by hand back then, but they were much poorer and younger then too, having just built the house!

DAMN!! Those houses dont look like they are in too much need of a good painting!! God ill have to share pics of the house im buying..... its in DESPERATE need of painting... and perhaps a new color.... currently its orange (oh, excuse me, thats salmon)  Sadest part of it all... its currently my parents house and they let it go do long that when i walk past it im embarrassed.... all the paint is coming off, the shutters need painted as bad as the house, plus they are falling apart because they are so old (they came with the house when my parents bought it like 30 years ago... and the house itself is 200 years old so who knows how old those bad boys could be).

With you 2 painting your houses, if you come up with any good ideas or suggestions to make it easier and/or cheaper (the cheap part there is very important) please share :)  Ill be doing the same thing in the spring!

lol, I had already started scraping when that picture was taken, it didn't look THAT bad in the begining! ;)
I love that red color, it fits well with the house.
And it cost us under $300 for all of the paint (more like 240 after the rebates). I wish I could have afforded siding, but oh well.

I know you were just teasing ;) lol.
I am really excited now that the paint is really coming along. This weekend I should have the whole front of the house primered!
It's really hard though, because I have done most of the work myself.

The paint in the back of our house is literaly falling off in huge chunks. It definetly needs a good painting! lol.

To keep it cheap, see if you can borrow a power washer from someone. They help tremendously!! Just make sure you don't carve into the wood like I did at first :?
I just watched for paint sales at Menards. The paint was like $65.00 for a 5 gallon pail and they offered a $15 rebate for each pail.
So I guess I only paid $200 to paint my house!
It's not really expensive, just uber time consuming.
We took our shutters off when we had the new windows put in. I'm not a big fan of them.
I haven't yet figured out how to make it any easier than it is lol.
I do know though, that if you want the paint to last you should really primer it first.  I personaly don't want to ever do this again!! It is soooo time consuming. But in the end the money I save by doing it myself makes it worth it.

And just a side note, the color is NOT the same color as on the porch. It is darker than that.

I think this is definitely one of those things you want to make sure and do right, if you had to redo a job like that it wouldn't be fun at all!

Pokes, maybe look for that Wagner painter item, the one where there's commercials of a dude running all over the neighborhood painting the houses and fences? It looks like it could make the painting easier, and it'll probably go on sale as summer goes on?

Like these things?

We bought one of those and ended up taking it back. I gues they are a pain in the ass to clean and you need to thouroughly (can't spell!!) clean it after every use or they don't work.
I am happy with a paintbrush honestly. Not to mention that you are supposed to brush over the paint after you spray it with a sprayer anyways.
