when I bought my 07 focus i compared esp's with the dealer (ford/chrysler dealership) and fords was way outdone by the chryster both in price and coverages. ended up costing 1,295 compared to what ford wanted at the time which was right at 2,000.
But the stupid thing is i usually trade cars every 2-3 years, so was pretty much a waste of money on my part anyways.

I really don't have the money to afford an ESP right now.

I bairly have enough money to cover my $40/day(roughly) gas habbit.

that banging sound is typically the engine rocking hard against it's mounts, I blew up one of those silly hydraulic mounts at an autocross, just by really stomping on the gas while still in the "high" torque band, it is a sick sound, not to mention when you stop and see that hydraulic fluid pouring out, your first thought is, I just broke something really, expensive.
