I've got this old car in my backyard that doesn't belong to me. It was left here by the previous renter. It's tagged as a Chevelle SS, but the interior door panels say Malibu. If someone could please take a look at these pics and let me know what it's worth, that would be great. I'm interested in tracking down the previous owner and offering to take it off his hands but I wanna know what to offer him. Thanks.
The VIN number is: 1D37F2B682386.

id just go up to the auditors office and tell them youd like to apply for a title for a vehicle that was abandoned. take the vin and plate number and any other things you might find in the glovebox with ya. they'll try to track the owner down and ask if the vehicles abandoned. if they cant locate him, you get a title, or if they do they ask if its abandoned if he says yes you can get a title.
does the car run at all?
pop the hood once and get some pics, it'll give me a better idea. but overall the car doesnt look in too bad of shape
If you end up with it, you can easily and cheaply build a bunch of power.
I've decoded the VIN, and here's what I got:
1 (Chevrolet)
D (Malibu)
37 (Sport Coupe)
F (307 CID V8)
2 (1972)
B (Built in Baltimore, MD - it's a Masshole :p )
682386 (the 182386'th one off the line)
I also found this out:
"To further "muddy the waters" Chevrolet then made the Chevelle SS only available on the Malibu platform from 1970 to the end of the line in 1973. These cars are Model 13600. So simple Vin tag decoding won' t tell you. You need to find the original buildsheet, factory window sticker, or Protect-O-Plate documentation to verify the cars authenticity." http://cdnclassics.chevelles.net/chevfaq.html
So have fun!
