Animals arent made to eat the same kinda crap that we are (eventhough, we really arent made to eat that kinda crap either). It messes with thier systems, can make them sick. The lollipop... thats just WAY too much sugar for a little kitty system. As for what your cats eat. You might be able to get away with a little shrimp every now and then but other than that, its the badness. My animals get thier designated food and thats IT. If i even change the brand its a slow change over to help prevent them from getting sick (thats why animals at shelters tend to have the poos... dont get the same kind of food everyday).
All in all... its just a safe run... if you want a healthy pet... only give them good made for them... and people good sure as hell isnt

As I am an avid lover of animals and spent the whole 9 years of Rajah's life learning more and more about them, here is more info for feeding.
Most OTC dog/cat foods are made primarily of fillers. Having said that, fillers are typically grains like wheat, rice, soy etc. Our animals actually don't digest these well and that is why you will find animals who eat a lower quality diet, tend to leave more "presants" for you throughout the day.
Answer: If you really want to feed your animal quality, you need to do your research on the breed. Each dog breed has specific needs. (here is an interesting read - http://home.att.net/~wdcusick/home.html Cats, if you know the breed, they can tend to have specifics too. An example - Dobermans, Shepards, Dacshounds among others, tend to have a naturally high concentration of copper in their blood stream. Copper can cause liver cancer in these dogs (ask me how I learned this one all). Many dog food companies process their foods with a high concentration of copper in them. So, these poor breeds who are fed this high concentration of copper filled food are doubling the efforts of their liver to process what becomes a toxin.
"Well the food I feed my animal says it has Chicken, or Veal, or Beef in it."
This may be true, if you believe everything you read. Actually, there are very limited laws pertaining to pet food bag/box labelling.
"Chicken &/or Poultry and Poultry by-products" - This can include any array of animal parts. "Poultry Digest" - Yep, you got it...the guts of animals...which isn't bad, but how much of the quality parts, liver, kidneys etc are actually included in this?
***My suggestion for foods - They are more expensive, but you don't feed them as much as you have to with OTC foods. "Canidae" is an excellent, human grade dog food and there are many combinations available. You can find Canidae in most Petco, PetQuarters etc. I suggest finding a nice locally owned shop. Ya, you may pay a few dollars more, but I like to give back to the community that is working with our animals and local people. Canidae is not the be all and end all. Look further into food if you're concidering a change.
There are another group of animal lovers who believe in feeding "raw". It is called "B.A.R.F" (Bones and Raw Food). I'm not a proponent of this type of feeding and it does not completely eliminate the need for bagged or canned quality, human grade pet food. I fed Rajah Carrots as treats, he loved Brocolli and other veggies. These are excellent for your dog. HOWEVER! becarful of what you feed your animal. What is healthy for humans can be lethal to pets. I suggest reading about BARF to see if adding it as a suppliment or changing your animals over to it would be something you would be interested in. I will add links at the bottom for all sorts of information on what i'm talking about.
BTW - When you're talking about feeding and what breed is sensitive to one food and not the other...take into consideration that Mutts may have many different breeds and they can live a long, healthy, happy life with some of the OTC foods out there.
Here are some links. I will warn you - don't let yourself be dragged into the overly dramatic zealotus type of information you may read. Just consider it and look deeper into it. I do not support PETA in any way, but they do open doors for investigation. They are not always acurate in their reporting, so take what they say with a LARGE grain of salt and do the footwork yourself.
ha!
we used to have the hamster space pod, too!
we had a Roborovski Dwarf Hamster,
but he recently passed on (old age, he was almost 4).
