SPI Short Header Installation
1. Disconnect the battery negative ground lead. 2. Remove the
two bolts mounting the power steering line to the heat shield. 3. Remove the
heat shield. 4. Disconnect the wire plug from the oxygen sensor (it is bright
green and above the radiator). 5. Unbolt the stock header from the engine and
the two bolts connecting the header to the right side mount. 6. Unbolt the four
bolts holding the header to the cat. 7. Get under the car and remove the two
bolts that mount the cat to the car. You should be prepared for it to fall. Make
sure to go slow when lowering it. There is a sensor connected to it, and you
don’t want that to pop out. (I held it up with my tool box).
8. Return to the engine compartment and lift the stock header
out.
9. Use a 3M finishing pad to clean off the old gasket from
the engine. 10. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the oxygen sensor and a
socket wrench to remove the two metal pieces from the stock header. 11. Install
the oxygen sensor and the two metal pieces onto the new header.
12. With the cat still lowered, install new gaskets and bolt
the new header onto the cat. 13. Lift the entire thing up and slide the two
metal pieces into their mounting places. 14. Bolt the cat back onto the car. 15.
Return to the engine compartment and bolt the header to the engine. 16. Re-plug
in the oxygen sensor. 17. Flip the power steering mounting bracket 180 degrees
so that it’s pointing towards you. Pull it forward and mark off where it touches
the mounting for the radiator. Move it out of the way and then drill two holes
where you marked. Use self-tapping bolts to mount the power steering line
there.
18. Double check all bolts to make sure they are as tight as
possible. 19. Re-connect the battery. 20. Start the car and check for leaks. If
there are any, make sure all bolts are tightened to torque spec (123 ft/lb) and
that you replaced the old gaskets. If not, close the hood and enjoy!
